A composite index representing coverage of essential health services based on 14 tracer indicators in the areas of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, infectious diseases, noncommunicable diseases and service capacity and access. It is presented on a scale of 0 to 100 index points.
What the numbers show
UHC service coverage index is currently reported for 193 countries. The highest value is 92 in Canada; the lowest is 26 in Chad.
The median across all reporting countries is 72, and the mean is 68.33.
The gap between the highest and lowest reporting country is a factor of about 4.
Over the past decade 154 countries rose and 23 fell. The largest increase was in Central African Republic (up 39.3%), and the largest decrease in Gabon (down 11.1%).
