Analysis
South Asia recorded 3,321 Mt CO2e for carbon dioxide (co2) emissions (total) excluding lulucf in 2024. That is the highest value across all 55 years on record.
The figure is up 4.6% on the previous year and up 41.7% over ten years.
Over the whole period, carbon dioxide (co2) emissions (total) excluding lulucf in South Asia peaked at 3,321 Mt CO2e in 2024 and was at its lowest, 219.63 Mt CO2e, in 1970.
The series is highly variable year to year, so single readings are best treated with caution.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agriculture, energy, waste, and industrial sectors, excluding LULUCF. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
